My buddies over at Inkwell Inspirations had me thinking about the new Jane Eyre movie that's coming out this spring. I never saw the 1996 version reviewed here at the IMDB (Internet Movie Data Base). By the way, if you've never visited IMDB it's a site I just love. For instance, this version of Jane Eyre (right) at IMDB looks fantastic and got great reviews: 8.6 out of 10. If you scroll down to the bottom of that page on IMDB you'll see an interesting bit of trivia.
Have you seen any of the movies? Who is your favorite Rochester and your favorite Jane? So tell me. Have you read Jane Eyre? Did you like it? I have to admit that I don't think I've ever read this book. But now I'm thinking I'll have to do it before I watch any versions of the movie again. I know I saw an old version of Jane Eyre when I was a kid but none of the ones on IMDB look familiar. Any way I'm looking forward to the new version but I want to see the one with Tony Stephens as Rochester because he looks so scrumcious on the DVD cover.
I absolutely LOVE the version with Toby Stephens, I think if you see it you will fall in love too LOL!

Hi Renee!
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking forward to it. Thanks! And what did you think about those Steelers? As if I have to ask?:)
I've seen the Toby Stephens version and the Ciaran Hinds version and loved them both. Didn't see the one with William Hurt, but it looks good, too. And of course the new one looks great. I mean, it can't miss with Judi Dench as the housekeeper, can it?
ReplyDeleteIt does look like a great movie, but I'm skeptical. I love the book. I've read it so many times that I've lost count, and I can't imagine that a movie could do it justice. When you do get a chance to read it, I know there are some free versions online (dailylit.com comes to mind).
ReplyDeleteHi Anne,
ReplyDeleteAll this discussion has me wanting to leave work and go have a Jane Eyre marathon.:) Don't think the boss would like that. Can't wait to see it. And Judi Dench is so awesome no matter what role she has from everything I've seen.
Hi Chazley,
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful name! Love it. I will read the book. It's just a matter of time.:) I can understand that hesitation to watch a movie based on a book you love. I'm such a visual person though I know I'd do it anyway. :) Thanks for the heads up regarding the online availability and thanks for visiting.
Oh my gosh!!! I'm so glad I clicked over here this morning! Number one, because this is my first visit, and your website is awesome, and number two, I had no idea about this movie and I'm so excited right now!! Yes, I was an English major. Jane Eyre is one of my favorite books. I can't wait for this!!
ReplyDeleteHi Catherine!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you clicked over here too.:) Glad you like the site. My guess is that we'll be seeing ads on television for this soon. It looks so good. It will be fun. Thanks for following.
Off subject, but I watched the latest Wuthering Heights yesterday with Tom Hardy (no not Thomas Hardy, hardly!) as Heathcliff. It has always been a difficult movie to watch. I almost need a map to keep track of who is who!
ReplyDeleteSo, back to Jane E. I am so excited about the new movie coming out. When I heard, my first reaction was 'they just made a new Jane Eyre' but of course, this is a theatrical release. duh.
I bought the Toby Stephens version because I liked it so much. He is one of the more likable Rochesters and I love how they have a teasing, almost fun relationship (fun, in Jane Eyre?).
Went and checked out the new Rochester because I'd heard he was too good looking to be what Ms. Bronte had in mind.
Jilly, I wish I could hop on over and go with you to the movie! March will be here before we know it!
I wish you could hop over too!:) I have so many movies to catch up on and we could have fun. It's frustrating with friends living all over the country and only seeing each other if we happen to be able to go to the same conference. Is this what you get to do when you're unemployed? I know, it doesn't help pay the bills, but don't you feel a certain freedom? We should start some kind of annual summer retreat at the beach. Visit, eat great meals, sunbath, brainstorm novels. Rent a big house. I'm ready to go! Really!
