DOWNTON ABBEY

Sunday, March 20, 2011

If you love period drama's you must see Masterpiece Theatre's Downton Abbey It's wonderful and I don't know how I missed hearing about this till just recently. I bought the DVD for Season One and my hubby and I finished watching it this Saturday. I can't wait to see more but my understanding is that Seaon Two will not be released until the winter of 2012. Downton Abbey To Return I don't know how I'll wait that long but I guess there's not option. So if you're looking for some inspiration this is it.

Everyone's been talking about it. Missed Downton Abbey? Jane Austen World Blog

I never even looked at this much before I went and bought the first season on DVD. Neither should you. Just buy it. You'll want to watch it over and over again.

Have you seen it? Did you like it?

  1. Did you watch the original British version on DVD? We loved Downton Abbey when we watched in on our PBS station, but felt so cheated when we learned they'd deleted a couple of hours from the British version because they didn't think audiences would care about the intricacies of British inheritance law! I mean really! Anyway watching such a show would definitely care! So when I saw the British version on DVD for cheap (less than $15) on Amazon, I snatched it! Haven't watched it yet, but can't wait for those extra bits!

  4. Hi Rosslyn,
Last night I watched some of the special features section on the DVD. I enjoy hearing the cast memebers talk about the making of the film. It was fun to see some of the ways they made the film.

  5. late to the party. I loved it. I thought the fourth night on PBS was the last, so I was shocked when it didn't 'wrap up'. Excited to see that more was coming but I yelled at the TV nonetheless!

    cliffhanger? Oh my yes!
(by the way I think it's on streaming video for Netflix users, so you can watch it on demand)

Maggie Smith and Julian Fellowes' script- what a combination. She was the icing on the cake.

  6. I can only take my hat off to the impressive roster of talent and skill of the English series. I really hope to continue producing more things like this in the factory yours to the delight of all.
It's just perfect the atmosphere of the time and classes cohabit in it. And then you come to mind the equally wonderful "Upstairs, Downstairs", although old, is still a benchmark.
It's a series for lovers of vintage series, craftsmanship and drama students in our country.

  7. A very well worn out series, with scenes and the only sets. I am charmed with it since they have done everything. In addition the actors are very good.
